Recovery Focus takes success to national crisis care summit

Recovery Focus’ pilot scheme to trial an alternative ‘place of safety’ to police custody for individuals in mental distress has been hailed a success by an independent evaluation.

Unacceptable postcode lottery for Cumbrian mental health sufferers

Croftlands-Trust-logoA Cumbrian mental health charity has blasted the ‘unacceptable postcode lottery’ of mental health care after a report found people with mental health problems in the county were more likely to die prematurely.

The damming report highlighted that overall the premature death rate among those with mental health problems was 2.4 times higher than that of the general population. However the situation is worse in Cumbria seeing a rate 3.3 times higher than the general population.

Recovery Focus reacts today to the release of the Open Public Services Network (OPSN) report which states that mental health early deaths are ‘worrying in one in four areas’ of the country.

Mental health cafe scoops NHS award

A charity run café which aims to tackle mental health stigma in Blackpool has won a prestigious NHS award barely ten months since its doors opened.

Sparky’s, the pioneering social café run by our partner organisation Richmond Fellowship, took top prize for the NHS in the North West Excellence in Supply Awards 2015.

The award comes thanks to Sparky’s work in tackling mental health stigma and providing opportunities for people living with mental health problems to gain the confidence and skills to return to work through volunteering and apprenticeships.
