Recovery Focus reacts to the BBC News and Community Magazine investigation into mental health patients in England travelling hundreds of miles because of a lack of local hospital beds.
Through a Freedom of Information request the BBC found that nearly 5,500 mental health patients had to travel out of their area last year because of a lack of local hospital beds, a 13% rise on the previous year’s figure. Read more
Recovery Focus is to present a workshop at the National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA) Conference entitled, ‘how the voluntary sector collaborates to help people get the right help in a crisis’ today (Tuesday 2 February).
Grazina Berry, Recovery Focus group director of performance, quality and innovation, and Christine Laurence, Locality Manger for Leicestershire, will be addressing conference delegates and sharing information on our crisis model and our successful place of safety scheme held in conjunction with the Home Office.
We will also be sharing the stories of Harry and Sarah who both accessed our crisis house in Leicestershire when facing a mental health crisis as an alternative to hospitalisation.

A mental health service in Derby has been recognised by the City Council for its work in promoting dignity for people with mental health problems.
Trevayler, a mental health service run by Richmond Fellowship, part of Recovery Focus the national group of mental health and substance misuse charities, supports people with mental health problems through supported living and a short term crisis house. Read more
