Aquarius is a registered charity working in the West Midlands to help people overcome the harms caused by alcohol, drugs and gambling.
It works closely with individuals, families and friends to lessen the impact caused by the behaviour of a loved one.
Its key services include:
Drug, alcohol and gambling recovery services – Aquarius uses a social ecological model of service which enables its teams to see the issue of problematic alcohol, drug or gambling use not just as an individual problem but one that impacts on families, communities and society. The approach includes elements of personal skills training (PST) which is based in a cognitive behavioural approach. Support includes confidential advice and information, one to one support or group sessions, referral to detox and/or rehabilitation services if necessary.
Kinship care – Aquarius provides direct support to family members who’ve taken over carer responsibilities for children whose parents are experiencing substance issues. This includes individual and group support for the carer, family sessions with carers and children, online forums, plus fun days and activities.
DRIVE – Aquarius is one of the providers of the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency Drink Drive Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS). It runs alcohol education courses for people convicted of drink-drive offences who have been referred by the courts.
